Week One of Tools and Materials Theory

We started the week off with an orientation to the program and a review of the course curriculum. Everyone developed Google accounts and got set up to use Blogger as an electronic portfolio for their work. Everyone learned to use the various editing tools and figured out how to upload videos to YouTube and then embed the video on their blog. All practical projects will be supported by an entry in the individual blogs and assessment will be based on this documentation. Students were introduced to the fittings identification system used in the piping trades, where all fittings are identified by size, connection method, material and function. We then went on to begin with the Pipe Trades Handbook, one of the main resources for the course. Assignments were completed on Section One: Pipe Data and Section 2: Tubing Data. We spent some time on Tools and Materials practical in particular learning to tie the boline knot and the related truckers hitch.
